Background of the Study
International public health policies, formulated by organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations, are designed to provide frameworks for managing and mitigating epidemic outbreaks. In Abuja, these policies guide local epidemic responses by informing surveillance, prevention, and treatment strategies (Morris, 2023; Okafor, 2024). The implementation of these policies has been critical in strengthening public health systems, improving emergency preparedness, and coordinating responses to outbreaks such as COVID-19. By facilitating resource allocation, technical support, and policy harmonization, international public health directives have enhanced the capacity of local authorities to manage epidemics effectively. However, challenges remain in adapting global guidelines to local contexts, where infrastructural, socio-cultural, and economic factors can impede swift and effective responses. This study investigates how international public health policies impact local epidemic responses in Abuja, assessing both successes and areas needing improvement. The research draws on case studies, policy analyses, and field data to provide a comprehensive evaluation of public health responses influenced by global directives (Morris, 2023; Okafor, 2024).
Statement of the problem
Despite the support provided by international public health policies, Abuja continues to face challenges in epidemic response. Inadequate infrastructure, resource constraints, and delays in policy implementation hinder effective outbreak management. These issues compromise the local ability to rapidly detect, contain, and mitigate epidemics, leading to higher morbidity and mortality rates. This study aims to identify the critical gaps in translating international policies into effective local action and propose measures to enhance epidemic preparedness and response in Abuja (Morris, 2023; Okafor, 2024).
Objectives of the Study
To evaluate the impact of international public health policies on local epidemic responses in Abuja.
To identify challenges in implementing these policies at the local level.
To propose strategies to improve epidemic response mechanisms.
Research questions
How do international public health policies influence local epidemic responses in Abuja?
What are the main challenges in implementing these policies effectively?
What measures can improve local public health responses during epidemics?
Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it provides valuable insights into how international public health policies are translated into local epidemic responses. The findings will help policymakers and health practitioners enhance preparedness and response strategies, ultimately reducing the impact of epidemics in Abuja (Morris, 2023).
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study is limited to evaluating the impact of international public health policies on epidemic responses in Abuja. It does not extend to other regions or broader aspects of public health policy.
Definitions of terms
